Help democratise the Big Green Weekend

Early next week I will be forming a not-for-profit company to administer the Big Green Weekend, and quite possibly other projects.

It will take the form of a Company Limited by Guarantee, an alternative type of corporation used primarily for non-profit organisations that require legal personality.

I would like this entity to be as representative of the local community as possible so that it is owned by a wide base of interest groups and so, to this end, I am inviting interest from people who would like to become directors.

I would also remain as a director (at least in the short term), but I'd like to see representatives of the ATC, the local council, the Trades Club, the brass band community, Hebden Bridge Transition Towns, the skaters, the Business Association, faith based groups, youth groups, educationalists etc, in fact any local interest group that wished, have the right to vote as members of the board.

All of the costs of establishing the company would be met by Green Refurb Ltd and the time commitments and responsibilities required from the directors would actually be extremely small, so I am hoping for a decent uptake.

If this sounds like something you, or someone you know, would be interested in having a permanent stake in, please let me know as soon as possible as we need to crack on with it!

This is not about getting people doing more work. It is entirely about enshrining the voting rights of a diverse cross-section of interest groups in and around Hebden Bridge. Don't say you weren't invited to participate!
